Make a connection because mothering matters

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment.  I made it for Wednesday after school, knowing I'd have to drag all three children along with, because that was the only time I had available this week. The kids, accustomed to waiting rooms because we are a chronically ill family, settled quietly into their routine of reading or drawing, while I checked in.  But the woman at reception had no appointment scheduled for me that day; the doctor is never in on Wednesday afternoons.  She tried to reschedule me for another day, but I explained that it was Track & Field day tomorrow and the next day and that all I needed was medical clearance to be able to resume my regular medications (the ones that make it possible for me to do things like chaperon Track & Field Day).

The receptionists face softened as she looked over at my children sitting quietly reading.  She told me that her eldest daughter left for college this year and that her baby was a sixth grader now and that she loved going to their field days.  She picked up the phone, made a quick request, and we were told we could see another doctor right away.

I would like to think it's because my children were so well behaved, but I know that God put me and her together to have that mothering moment, to make that connection, because no matter how brief, it reminds me how much mothering matters and brings us closer together when we are out in the world alone.

We have speakers who come and talk to us about all sorts of things pertinent to moms - marriage, discipline, money, nutrition, etc. Some days we do something crafty, but we always have time set aside for visiting with each other – all while your little ones enjoy some fun time with their little playmates!

Our group has about 50 moms which are divided into smaller groups of about 8. Each group has a mentor mom whose role is to provide experience and support to the newer mommies. We are so blessed to have such incredible mentors.

There is no requirement for moms to be a member of the church.  We live by the mottoes "No Mom Alone" and "Every Mom Matters!"
